Dolorcast EMS Focus Shockwave
Dolorcast EMS shockwave machines are the gold standard in shockwave therapy and in clinical trials show far superior results than other machines on the market. At Ringwood Sports Medicine we only use Dolorcast EMS shockwave machines.
Radial Shockwave is a form of shockwave therapy, and is the most widely used and traditional form of shockwave therapy. EMS machines are the gold standard in shockwave therapy.
Focus Shockwave
Focus Shockwave is a cutting edge form of shockwave therapy, and differs from radial shockwave in that it can be used for superficial and deep pathologies, previously unable to be targeted. It also produces more energy than a radial device, thus greater treatment effect.
Focal shockwave can be used for all the same pathologies as radial shockwave
- Shoulder rotator cuff tendon pain
- Tennis Elbow (Lateral elbow tendonopathy)
- Golfers Elbow (Medial elbow tendonopathy)
- Hamstring tendon pain
- Quadricep tendon pain
- Patella tendon pain (Jumpers knee)
- Achilles tendon pain
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Osteoarthritis
But can also be used for deep structural pathologies including:
- Gluteal medius tendonopathy and bursa (GTPS)
- Facet joints and Lower back lumbar discs
- Calcifications in tendons and muscles
- Bone lesions (non healing fractures, stress fractures, shin splints)
- Pseudathrosis
- Painful enthesopathies
Shockwave Therapy at Ringwood Sports Medicine
Ringwood Sports Medicine is at the forefront of Radial and Focal Shockwave Therapy for the treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
Our experienced team including Sports Doctors, Senior Physiotherapists, and Podiatrists are trained in the safe and effective application of this advanced modality.
Natural healing is blocked by biological interactions between pain and inflammation mechanisms in the body.
Shockwave therapy quickly and efficiently treats pain and inflammation, whether acute or chronic. It unlocks the body’s ability to repair itself while activating specific healing mechanisms.
What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy involves the use of high energy acoustic waves delivered to injured tissues via a handheld device. Originally developed for non invasive kidney stone removal, the technology has since been refined and widely adopted in sports medicine for its powerful regenerative effects on tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissue structures.
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
Shockwave therapy, supported by rigorous and robust evidence, works to:
- Provide Pain Relief
- Shockwave Therapy overwhelms C nerve fibres to inhibit the release of Substance P, and drive down pain signals.
- Inhibits sensory neurons located at nerve endings to suppress pain signals to the central nervous system.
- Reduce Inflammation
- Reduces the release of Substance P, thus inhibiting neurogenic inflammation and allowing scleraxis expression which is key for tendon and ligament health.
- Decreases the amount of the Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), responsible for mediating acute inflammation, mimicking the effects of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) without side effects.
- Induces an anti inflammatory action, paving the way to healing.
- Stimulate Natural Healing
- Improves angiogenesis, blood circulation and pressure
- Activates the repair of damaged muscle fibres
- Stimulates tendon remodelling and helps decrease erosive wear
- Decreases cartilage degradation and stimulates its repair
- Stimulates bone healing
- Fosters regeneration of muscles, tendons, cartilage and bones
Most patients begin to feel better after the first or second session, with continued improvement over five treatments. Significant pain reduction and functional recovery are typically achieved after three to five sessions.
What to Expect During Treatment
- Treatment is well tolerated, with only mild discomfort reported by most patients
- There is no downtime, so you can return to most activities immediately
- A small out of pocket fee applies in addition to the consultation fee for use of the state of art equipment
To ensure lasting benefits, patients are guided through a structured rehabilitation program, to ensure the most optimal result for the presenting pathology
